January 2008 Board Meeting Minutes
January 22, 2008
Jan 31, 2008 --
MOUNT VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL PTA
EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
2007-08
January 22, 2008
CALL TO ORDER: 2:37 p.m.
ATTENDANCE:
Dia Hernandez – President, JoAnn Kohler – Treasurer, Sandy Mann – Recording Secretary, Lorraine Miano-Fike – Delegate, Kathryn McKinley – Principal, Debbie O’Byrne – Asst. Principal, Michelle Richards – Spirit Team, Heather Shields – 7th Grade Team Representative, Wendy Vlahos – 8th Grade Activities.
MINUTES:
There were no objections of the November minutes and reading of the minutes was waived. Motion was made and approved to accept the minutes as written.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Wax Machine – It makes sense for the PTA to support the cost of the wax machine ordered by the school for hanging posters etc. in the halls. The spirit team would use it as well. Michelle Richards motioned that we help fund the machine. The motion was seconded and approved. The funds will come out of resource support or discretionary fund.
Folley Quarter/Burleigh Manor 8th Graders – There are about 30 students from these two schools that will attend Marriotts Ridge with our 8th graders. Wondering if there is an opportunity for them to get to know some of our 8th graders before school starts in the fall. The principals at those schools don’t want it to be coordinated by the middle schools. Possibly Marriotts Ridge could coordinate a social activity for those incoming ninth graders.
Nominating Committee - We are coming up on that time of year to select the nominating committee for next years board. Please let Dia know your intentions for the next school year.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Mrs. McKinley thanked the PTA for all of the support for the staff. We had a wonderful concert in December. Jazz concert is on 1/23. Last Thursday we had a great ½ day. We had our first Spelling Bee. It was a lot of fun to watch. We had PBIS Skyflyer activity the rest of the day. As always, we can still use support for the PBIS program. Character Education piece went along with this. We are heading into our 3rd Quarter. We will have our Student Recognition Awards Assembly on Feb. 5th. All grades will be recognized in separate assemblies that day. Students would like some sort of reward other than certificates. We can do an ice cream social after the last lunch but would need parent support/volunteers to help run this. Will follow-up with Kari Staddon before the next meeting.
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Mrs. O’Byrne reported that she will be going to her first MSA meeting next week. Dates for the MSA’s are as follow:
